The Three

By Angela Cribari

Let’s go back to the way it was.
When life blended smoothly from one day to the next.
When music and dance was our passion and growing up was just a dream.
When 24 hours was never enough and “next time” was a lifetime away.

Let’s go back to the way things were.
When childhood ignorance was bliss.
When pain was caused by a scraped knee, not a broken heart.
When our lives weren’t controlled by obligations, fear, and addictions.

Let’s go back to a time before.
Before the distance became too comfortable and safe.
Before all the rumors, tears and anger began.
Before time stopped, and one was lost.

Let’s go back to the way we were.
When we loved to tell people we were twin cousins.
When our weekend plans consisted of spending the night at Gammy’s and walking to our favorite spot.
When we didn’t have a care in the world and there was no such thing as a waste of time or regret.

Let’s go back to when we were the three.
I, Nicole, and Natalie.
